A Witch and a Soldier

Kallen and C.C. are the two most important female figures in the Black Knights. Although they both oversee different sides of the organization the two women seem to constantly be butting heads. What makes the two incompatible as friends. Is it just a female rivalry or something more? My bet would be on something more. Why? Kallen and C.C. may be the most important women but they aren’t the only women. There are several female Black Knights and Kaguya Sumeragi around as well. Neither girl ever fights with them. This also rules out the idea of Kallen and C.C. vying for Lelouch’s affections, since Sumeragi seems far more serious than then either of them. I think that the reason Kallen and C.C. fight so often is both of them are complete opposites in how they lead their lives.

C.C. is manipulative. She doesn’t often fight for herself; instead she manipulates people into doing what she wants, or even doing things that she would find entertaining. Her ability and desire relate back to her geass, which made her desirable to anyone around her, they would shower her with love and gifts in order to impress her. C.C. didn’t seem to like the attention all that much, but it’s quite possibly the only way that she knows to get what she wants. Kallen is a woman of action. She doesn’t like to leave things in the hands others. She is independent and would rather do things for herself. Kallen fights on the front lines in the Guren Mk-II and finds that C.C.’s approach doesn’t get enough things done right.

Kallen and C.C. fight because their methods are so different and neither sees enough benefits in the methods of the other. In a sense, their rivalry is what actually makes them such a good team. Zero leads the Black Knights with a witch to his left and soldier to his right. Neither of them can stand each other but they’re both very necessary to provide a balance of strategy and actions to the Black Knights.
